While reading and writing are central to the practice of most historians, history is increasingly being presented in different formats. More people now learn about history through computer games and movies than through books and this assignment encourages you to think about presenting the past in different formats, using a range of evidence.
This assignment also asks you to take a critical stance towards the way history is presented in the world around us and to practice presenting another story to the ‘official’ version. It does not mean you need to undermine or critique official history (though you can if you wish), it rather invites you to offer an alternative perspective – to produce what in other units I have sometimes called ‘guerrilla history’.
